Events Calendar
The Traverse City area hosts a wide variety of festivals throughout the year. By far our largest annual event is the National Cherry Festival, held in early July in downtown Traverse City. Other major celebrations throughout the year are listed below, with links to the official sites if available.

Arts of the Woodland Indians
This exhibition draws from the museum's collection of art by the Woodland Indians. Not only does this exhibition include excellent examples of quillwork and sweetgrass basketry from both Michigan and Ottawa artists, but also prints by artists of the famed woodland or Anishinabe style of painting, such as Norval Morrisseau and Roy Thomas.
Hours: Mon-Sat 10 am - 5 pm, Sun 1 - 5 pm, Thurs - Open until 8 pm. Admission: Adults $6, Children $4 The museum is closed on major holidays.
Haunted Hayrides
Haunted Hayride will take place from 6-10 pm every Friday and Saturday in October leaving from Hearth and Vine Cafe across from the Tasting Room. The price is $10/per person for an evening of fright. Pizzas and sandwiches will be made available for purchase in the cafe and of course, wine and mulled cider will also be available.
Grimfell Asylum
Evernight Entertainment will once again be opening "Grimfell Asylum" Haunted Attraction in Traverse City. This Fall The Asylum Doors Open...let the madness and screaming begin!!! This year as last year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the "Munson Breast Health Center". The Asylum will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October as well as November 1. $7
River of Gold
River of Gold is not only visually stunning. It also gives viewers an invaluable glimpse into a Panamanian society as it was 1,000 years ago.

Field of Screams Haunted Hayride
Travel in the dark...down to the abyss of terror on a tractor - pulled hay wagon through the haunted forest. Enjoy eerie theatrics, startling events, ghouls and spooks. Hang on to your loved ones and hope you make it back for hot cider and donuts. $10 per victim. Friday nights are family night, children 12 and under half price when accompanied by an adult. 3rd Annual Haunted House & Hayride
Admission: $7 per person, $5 per person with a group of 10 or more. Proceeds will be donated to a local charity. On Sat. Oct 31st there will be a live band and costume contest.
Jacob's Corn Maze
Jacob's Corn Maze is an "A-Maze-ing" Farm Adventure." Jacob's three separate corn mazes are fun for everyone, young and old alike. Our pumpkin patch features "Super Freak" pumpkins. Admission: Adults $8, kids 3 - 11 yrs $5, under 3 yrs Free.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Inuit Print
The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College of Traverse City, Michigan will organize an exhibition consisting of 50 prints in observance of this significant 50th Anniversary milestone. Prints will be selected from the Museum's collection and represent each year of the 50 year history of Inuit printmaking beginning with 1959. The museum holds prints from co-operatives including Baker Lake, Cape Dorset, Holman, Pangnirtung, as well as miscellaneous and independent co-operatives. The prints exhibited will also include a Cape Dorset 2009 Annual Print Collection release.
The exhibition will open with the date of the annual release sale of the Cape Dorset 2009 Annual Print Collection. This will also coincide with the annual meeting of the Inuit Art Society consisting of Inuit Art collectors throughout the United States who will meet at the Dennos Museum Center the weekend of the Annual Dorset Collection release.

Presidential Papers and Portraits
This exhibition explores presidential papers from the likes of James Madison, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington as well as portraits of these important American leaders. Presidential Papers and Portraits was organized in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities' Picturing America Program.

Suttons Bay Fall Finale Art Walk
Visit participating village galleries & shops hosting award winning regional artists, sample wines from Leelanau County's wineries. An Evening with Shawn Colvin

Stargazing-Public Viewing
Students from the NMC Astronomy Club and Grand Traverse Astronomical Society are hosting an opportunity to Stargaze in order to expose more people to astronomy. They have scheduled weekly viewing nights to commemorate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy. Programming will be different each week. Souvenirs like a "star finder" map of the sky will be available.

Kevin Locke
Kevin Locke is known throughout the world as a visionary Hoop Dancer, a traditional storyteller, the preeminent player of the indigenous Northern Plains flute, cultural ambassador, recording artist, and educator. Kevin is Lakota and Anishinabe. His Lakota name, Tokeya Inajin, means “The First to Arise.” While his early instructions were received from his immediate family and community, Kevin has learned from his extended family in every part of the world many lessons in global citizenship and how we each can draw from our individual heritages ... and therein create a vibrant, evolving civilization embracing and celebrating our collective heritage.
Halloween Fun at the Village Farmers Market

Dennos Museum Holiday Art Fair
Fabulous annual three-day holiday art fair featuring fine arts and crafts from 55 Michigan artists. No admission charge. Hours: Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm.
Scary Fest '09
A double haunted house: 2 Guided Haunts, The Dark Side (Get Ready to Scream) and Creepy & Crawly (Colorful Thrills & Chills). Price $5/Haunt or both Haunts for $9. Guided groups of 5-7. Haunts will last 10-15 minutes or more! Open Friday and Saturday 7pm - 12am and Sunday 7-10pm. Guides will customize each group to their age & fright level. Chance to Dance
Beginners and experienced dancers are invited to come enjoy an eclectic mix of dance styles including waltz, blues, swing/jitterbug, slowdance, tango, Latin (salsa, cha-cha), and more. Participants will practice learned steps and discover new ones with dance instructor Mykl Werth and others on hand to assist. Dance nights are available every Friday, Oct 23 to Dec 4 (except Nov 27). Admission is $5 at the door. No partner necessary. Wear slippery-soled shoes.
