The Traverse City area hosts a wide variety of festivals throughout the year. By far our largest annual event is the National Cherry Festival, held in early July in downtown Traverse City. Other major celebrations throughout the year are listed below, with links to the official sites if available.

Suttons Bay Holiday Open House

Sharing Traditions: Shopping for Quality begins in our "Specialty Shops" - Shops and businesses in Suttons Bay will be open from noon to 5 p.m., thanking customers for their patronage through the year with refreshments and activities during this traditionally festive afternoon.

2009 Traverse City Turkey Trot

Join your neighbors, friends and family at the 2nd Annual EverywhereUGO Turkey Trot.  Run, jog, walk or roll through downtown before you dig into the bird and eat more than you should.  You'll receive a goody bag, a limited edition Turkey Trot t-shirt, post-race refreshments and the warm feeling inside knowing you're helping a worthy cause.  Proceeds benefit our brand new YMCA.

Glen Arbor PJ Party Sale, Tree Lighting & Carols

Stores in the village of Glen Arbor offer specials to shoppers in pajamas on Friday morning 5-7am.  At 5-7 pm there's a tree-lighting and carol sing at the Glen Arbor Township Hall.  Preview of Saturday's Holiday Market Place at 7:30 pm at the Glen Arbor Township Hall.

Leland P.J. Party: Where the Holidays begin

This is "Where the Holidays Begin!" Great holiday sales begin early. Shop in this charming small town and have lots of fun, too, during the PJ Party and Sale from 8am to 10am in Leland. The fun doesn't stop then. Enjoy a great lunch or dinner in our restaurants and avoid the city crowds while shopping all day in Leland's unique shops. But for the best bargains, show up early in your pj's!

Santa's Arrival Downtown TC

Location: Downtown Traverse City

The magic lights up Downtown Traverse City beginning the day after Thanksgiving.  Spend the day shopping and strolling through over 150 distinctive downtown shops and restaurants.  Mid-afternoon, shoppers will be serenaded with holiday music.  After a day spent shopping, families and friends can gather at the Christmas tree, beginning at 5 p.m., for a community sing-a-long of favorite holiday carols.  The excitement continues with Santa's arrival!  Santa will join the carols, receive the key to his house from the Traverse City Mayor and then help light the tree at 6 p.m., before spending the rest of the evening (6-8 p.m.) visiting the little ones at his holiday house across from the tree at Cass and Front Streets.  For more information call (231) 922-2050 or visit www.downtowntc.com.

Alden's Holiday Illumination

Time: 5:00 PM
Location: Downtown Alden

The official "Lighting of Alden" begins at 5 pm - 7 pm downtown.  The town will be officially lighted for the holidays along with a carol sing and refreshments.  Stores will stay open until 8pm.  There is no cost to the public.  Sponsored by Downtown Alden Business Association, Alden Volunteers, Helena Township, and the Alden Historical Society.  For more information, contact Harvey Bartel at (231) 331-4845.
